Zongo Development Fund Deceptive — Volta NDC

The Volta Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described as political gimmick the proposed establishment of the Zongo Development Fund.

Volta Regional Secretary of the party, James Gunu said this during the inauguration of a seventeen member Zongo Caucus Committee into office.

The Volta Regional Zongo Caucus led by Hajia Hawa Tahiru is aimed at bringing Muslim societies closer to the party in the region.

At a media briefing, James Gunu noted that government is being deceptive with the creation of Zongo Ministry.

“When you mention NDC, NDC is Zongo and Zongo is NDC, we declared their festivals republic holiday under President Rawlings and under President Mahama, we worked closely with the Zongos unlike what the NPP is doing today deceiving them,” he stated.

According to James Gunu, the establishment of Inner-City and Zongo Ministry alongside Zongo Development Fund which was aimed at developing these Zongo communities was a trick played on Muslim folks.

“The Zongo Development Fund which was established three years ago haven’t been anything fruitful. Zongo Ministry has been established but is still hanging in Accra and nobody is feeling the impact in the Zongos,” he emphasised.

The newly established committee is expected to mobilise more folks to join the NDC. There were also assigned to inaugurate Zongo Caucus groups at their various constituencies and spearhead campaign activities in the region.

Coordinator for the caucus Hajia Hawa Tahiru, said, “it is time for the Zongos to come out in their numbers to vote for the NDC.”
