Foiled coup: Persons responsible for ‘security’ lack knowledge of the word itself – Bernard Mornah

National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has chided government for making public, the recent alleged coup attempt targeted at the presidency.

According to Bernard Mornah, the announcement is most likely to lead to panic attacks among citizens and the investor community.

“For our government through the Ministry of Information to come and announce that they have foiled an attempt on our government and an attempt to destabilize our nation will lead to panic in the investor community.”

Government announced that a joint security operation on Friday arrested three alleged coup plotters retrieving several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from suburbs in Accra and Kpone Bawaleshie at Dodowa.

According to the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, personnel drawn from Defence Intelligence, CID and Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) conducted a successful operation which led to the arrest of three persons – Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm and his two accomplices – Ezor Kafui (a local weapon manufacturer) and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu (aka BB or ADC).

But Bernard Mornah stated that he was disappointed in the national security for showing “gross incapacity and lack of knowledge” about the incident.

Buttressing his point, he said, “I think that the persons responsible for security in this nation have constantly shown gross incapacity and lack of knowledge of what security actually means. Security information was not handled in the desired manner that it was communicated to the citizens and foreigners alike”.

The politician noted that he was ashamed of the kind of intelligence and security in the country.

He added that, Ghana’s reputation as an oasis of peace could be short-lived due to the current dispensation of heightened insecurity which is not being given the necessary attention
