A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria, Professor Attahiru Jega has impressed upon electoral bodies on the continent to work diligently to ensure that elections are conducted with integrity.
He said impartial election management is the bedrock to stable nations since the negative consequences of flawed elections can be far reaching.
Professor Jega said this when he addressed the media after an interaction with the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs. Jean Mensa.
He was full of praise for the EC for being dynamic in its work especially in the adoption of appropriate technology in the conduct of elections in Ghana.
Professor Jega added that politicians are also major stakeholders in post election violence.
He said the rancour that characterises campaigning fuels the tension that some elections come up with and if not well managed, can lead to violence.
