It will be recalled that the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) coordinating Council announced a 10 % increment in fuel prices which will be effective today Monday September 16, 2019. The Group, stated that the rise in transport fares to cover intra-city transportation and inter-city or long distance travels is predominantly to accommodate an increase in fuel prices.
This increase became necessary after the mid-year budget review and subsequent Parliamentary approval which led to an upward adjustment in the Road Fund Levy (RFL), the Energy Debt Recovery Levy (EDRL) and the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy (PSRL).
In effect, the minimum price increment is by a 0.10GHp margin which means that passengers who prior to the increment paid a GHC1.00 fare on travels will now pay GHC 1.10 for same distance.
Below is a copy of the statement as released by the Coordinating Council whose believe is that the usual fights and misunderstanding that characterizes fare increments in the past will be absent in the hopes that Ghanaians comply with the new rates.
