The First Lady of the land, H.E Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has commissioned the renovated and refurbished Osu Government Maternity Home in Accra.
In her speech, she noted that for eighty nine years, the facility has provided safe maternal health care for the people of Osu and its environs. However, over these years, the facility has seen its share of wear and tear, without any major works.
This is the first ever major works in the Home almost ninety years of its existence.
Being a native of Osu myself, the safety of our Osu women especially during delivery is dear to my heart. That is why it was so important to me to renovate this home.” she stated.
Although Ghana’s maternal and infant mortality rates have decreased in recent years, we still need to do better. #TheRebeccaFoundation is a committed partner in Ghana’s agenda to reduce our maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rates.
Since 2017, we have pursued this agenda with a great sense of duty, by building, renovating and equipping facilities all over the country. Today, it is the turn of the people of Osu to have a well fitted maternity home, to ensure safe delivery for our mothers and the safety of our new-borns.
The renovation, which was spear headed by the TheRebeccaFoundation and supported by the Chinese Embassy in Ghana.
Mrs. Rebecca Akuffo-Addo expressed hope that this renovation will lead to an improved uptake of services at the facility and help to eradicate maternal and infant mortality building a healthy nation.
