NPP activist’s Facebook post about Bawumia-Napo 2024 sparks ‘serious’ debate

An activist of the ruling New Patriotic Party who was instrumental in the party’s 2016 online campaign Afia Adwubi has sparked a conversation on social media about her personal preference for a future NPP ticket in 2024 headed by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo) as his running mate.

“Honestly, I am for this 2024. Bawumia-Napo✌😍”, Afia posted accompanied by a picture of Vice President Bawumia and Napo at a public function.

More than 95% of the comments were very sure they want Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP into 2024 but many disagreed about Napo while others yet still said the discussion of 2024 should be stopped because it can cause problems and misunderstandings.

Other people who commented proposed their own running mates to Vice President Dr. Bawumia.

Names such as Peter Amewu and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah came up.

We want Bawumia after Akufo-Addo- Sir John

The CEO of Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John months ago said Dr. Bawumia will succeed Akufo-Addo in 2024 because 2020 is a done deal.

Sir John believes the NDC will not come to power until Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has had the opportunity of serving a full eight-year term of office.

Explaining why he thinks Bawumia will be president after Akufo-Addo, he said: “it is factual that the ruling government has performed tremendously well. After the mess left behind by the previous administration headed by John Dramani Mahama; the damage they caused, and the way this government has fixed the economy, if it were to be related to an examination, Akufo-Addo will poll 80 percent.

“He even qualifies to get 90 percent. We want to tell John Mahama that even with the ten percent left, NDC is still not an option. It is only Akufo-Addo we want…by 2020 Ghanaians will endorse Akufo Addo again,” he added

Bawumia to shoot down NPP-Akan tag

he Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority also said Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is logically the governing New Patriotic Party’s best option after the Akufo-Addo Presidency.

Mr Tampuli who was speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray said that “….with the role that he [Dr. Bawumia] has played as Chairman of the Economic Management Team, he has demonstrated beyond every reasonable doubt his pedigree would put him ahead of everybody.”

He added: “As we speak now, he looks like the logical person to lead the party and that is akin to every democracy.”

That notwithstanding, Mr Tampuli further pointed out that Dr Bawumia will be met with stiff competition from other persons angling to lead the NPP into the 2024 elections but Bawumia will triumph with ease.

According to him, Bawumia’s elevation will help the NPP erase the perception that it is an Akan-inclined party.
