Voter’s Register: 89 Of The 275 Constituencies Are Bloated-MJA

The Executive Secretary for the Movement for Joint Action (MJA) who doubles as the Eastern Regional Secretary for National Democratic Party (NDP), Mr. Gideon Ampah has stated that the current voter’s register is not credible.

“Out of the 275 Constituencies we have in Ghana almost 89 Constituencies are bloated per our research “. We are looking forward to seeing the number of 55% population to go on the voters register within that constituency but the number has exceeded the 55% population we are talking about”, he explained.

Mr. Gideon Ampah added, that we use the population census to generate a new voter register and we are conducting population census in 2020 and calling for a new voter register and this is not news at all.

‘We believe a credible register is synonymous to a peaceful, free, fair and transparent election which the current register doesn’t reflect.’ he reiterated.

‘Because every 10yrs we do the population census and it helps us to know our total population as a country,’ he told Kingdom FM’s Kontihen Kofi Oboh.

According to the Statistical Service of Ghana in every year 2.5% per annum population grow by the country and demanding new voters register is in the right direction.

‘The cumulated number of the 89 bloated constituencies are 981,051 representing 7% of the total 2012 registered voters. Limited voter registration in 2016 excess of One Million Eight Hundred and Thirty-Four of the estimated figure of Six Hundred Thousand,’he noted.
