Ningo Prampram: Sam George cuts sod for construction of 4-unit classroom block

A sod cutting ceremony has been held for the construction of a four unit classroom block for staff and pupils of Awhiam D/A Basic Schools in the Ningo Prampram constituency. The project which forms part of the MP, Sam George’s plans to improve on access to education is expected to be replicated in other schools within the constituency.

The short ceremony which was graced by the District Director of Education, Beatrice Olenu, Chief and Queen mother of Ahwiam and other opinion leaders also saw the donation of some 300 tables and chairs to the school by the MP.

In his remark, the Ningo Prampram MP hoped his initiative intended to improve on access will complement other projects including plans to facilitate the rehabilitation of deplorable roads and a broken down bridge that links Awhiam and Mangotsonya to improve the lives of the people. “Starting from this weekend, we’re going to come in with some laterite, we’re going to fix the entrance to Awhiam, start working on the main roads and also fix the bridge when you are going to Mangotsonya where the erosion has taken half of the road. I.B Megida (the Contractor) has told me that within the next four weeks they will be able to complete all of those projects so in the next four weeks a lot of work will go on’’ he was quoted as saying.

On her part, District Director of Education, Beatrice Olenu who spoke to the media expressed gratitude to the MP for the initiative and prayed for more support to help reduce truancy and teenage pregnancies. According to her “……the challenge here in Awhiam if you talk of, is teenage pregnancy but we are trying to fight it. We’ve spoken to the community because the education, that is the teachers and officers we are doing our best to instill moral education in the children but when they go home after six we are not with them…………we’ve seen the chiefs so that they will make sure that these children are indoors after at least 9 O’clock.’’

Ningo Prampram is one of the keenly contested Parliamentary seats though the opposition NDC has dominated since 1992. Incumbent MP, Sam “Dzata” George took over from veteran Politician, E.T Mensah in 2012 after a hot race. Strategically, the constituency has two traditional areas, Ningo and Prampram which have strong influence on the behavior of electorates.
