Controversial politician, Akua Donkor, is backing the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile a new Voters Register.
Her party, Ghana Freedom Party is part of the 13 political parties including the ruling New Patriotic Party in support of a new electoral roll for the December 2020 polls.
The failed presidential hopeful made her position known at the stakeholders meeting with political parties and members of the EC’s Eminent Advisory Committee over its decision to compile a new Voters Register.
This follows pressure by the Inter-party Resistance Against New Voters Register, led by the opposition National Democratic Congress on the EC to rescind its decision.
The group has also announced February 4, 2020 as the new date for its series of protests against the EC.
Their decision may change if the EC is able to convince them on the need for a new register for the general election.
Surprisingly, Akua Donkor has decided to take the side of the EC on this campaign – explaining that, it is the sure way for a free and fair election.
