The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to sue President Nana Akufo-Addo over the White Paper on the Emile Short’s Commission report on the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence.
According to Sam George, their decision to file a law suit is to challenge the President’s White Paper on the findings and recommendations of the Commission which have been rubbished.
“We are not dogs, we are lions and will not relent; we will fight back and achieve justice. Our spirit remains unbroken and our resolve is strong as ever to speak justice,” he said.
Speaking at the one year commemoration service of the January 31, 2019 event, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram stressed the party was relentless in its quest to seek justice.
“For speaking truth to authority, the Emile Short Commission was set up to investigate the violence and the president and his cabal expected the Commission will provide a white wash of the event but they were wrong,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo, following the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election in February 2019, tasked a three-member commission to investigate the violence that marred the by-election on January 31, 2019.
The Commission, chaired by Justice Emile Short, made several recommendations which were expected to be implemented by the government.
However, government in September 2019, issued a White Paper and rejected some of the recommendations of the Commission.
